Two inmates have been confirmed to have lost their lives in an attempted jail break in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
This was confirmed by the State Controller of Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) Amoran Olanrewaju on Wednesday.
According to Mr Amoran, the inmates were taking out for their daily exercise and refresh as usual on Tuesday, but some inmates try to use the opportunity to escape as they attacked some officers on duty.
He noted that security operatives was quick to bring things to normalcy but in total four inmates were severely injured while two died on the spot.
Injured persons have been taking to the hospital and are receiving treatment according to him.
