The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has denied allegations that its presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will run as a running mate for his Labour Party counterpart, Peter Obi, in the 2023 presidential elections.
When asked about this, the NNPP stated that it had never taken place.
Dr Agbo Major, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, made the announcement in Abuja on Sunday.
The NNPP Presidential Candidate, “His Excellency, Engr. Dr. Rabiu Musa kwankwaso, never at any time declared that he could accept to be the deputy of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.”
“The report is misleading and embarrassing to our great party, its Presidential Candidate, Kwankwaso, and millions of supporters in Nigeria and the diaspora, and urges journalists to cross-check their reports before publishing them to avoid national disaffection ahead of the crucial 2023 general election.
New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the Labour Party (LP) are engaged in “alliance negotiations” to strengthen the country’s shaky democracy, the party said in a statement.
As the watchdog of society and a key partner in Nigeria’s democratic process, journalists are held in high respect by the NNPP, and the party’s spokesman urged them to constantly double-check their stories before publication in accordance with the ethics of their profession.
A democratic society built on the foundations of strength, vitality, progress, and equality will be achieved with the help of the media, according to Major.
