Students of the University of Port Harcourt celebrates as Four of their colleague who were Kidnapped last week regain freedom.
It’s one of the “best” news in the Institution this year according to a friend to one of the Victims.
The students have re-united with their families after spending nearly a week in the hands of their abductors.
According to report the students were Kidnapped on their way back from where they had gone for vegetation sampling for their final year project and posthraduate research work.
The students identified as Gbaa Nenubari, Asumbo Elizabeth, Eze Chimezie and Onosigho Augustine, was said to have escaped on Wednesday during a gun battle between the kidnappers and security personnels who acted on a credible information gotten from sources.
A statement by the institution Vice-Chancellor Professor Owunari Georgewill revealed that two of the freed students were Ph.D and two undergraduate students.
“We are happy that you are back unhurt and now reunited with your family and friends. We sympathise with you for what you went through in the hands of your abductors. We are glad to inform the public that two Ph.D. students and two undergraduates who were kidnapped have regained their freedom,” the VC said.
A student on social media said “we won the war against kidnappers, so will others be released in other schools”
