Super Eagles will have to plan for the African Cup of Nations without Victor Osimhen as the Striker is set to miss out of the tournament following a surgery on his cheekbone.
Osimhen had a clash of heads on Sunday in Napoli’s 3:2 loss to Inter Milan and was helped out of the pitch after he was pictures with a swollen face.
According to medics he suffered multiple facial fractures which could keep him out for approximately 90 days. A major blow for Napoli tittle chase and Nigeria striking option.
An official statement released by Napoli via its website confirmed the successful operation of the Nigerian striker.
“Victor Osimhen was operated on this morning by Prof. Tartaro, assisted by dr. Mario Santagata and in the presence of dr. Canonical, for a reduction and restraint operation of multi-fragmentary and displaced fractures of the malar bone, of the zygomatic arch and pommel, of the floor and lateral wall of the orbit, and of the diastasis of the frontal-zygomatic suture;” an official statement by Napoli.
The statement added that,
“The prognosis is estimated to be around 90 days.”
The 22-year-old has just returned from an injury some weeks ago where he quickly gained a fine form in Napoli’s squad.
Osimhen has scored four Europa league goals and five league goals for Napoli this season.
