Abdulmumin Jibrin, a senior campaigner for All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu, has defected to the opposition New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Mr Jibrin declared his decision to leave the APC on his verified handle last weekend, promising to unveil the next party to join within 24 hours.
“I did my best for APC.” It is now time to move forward. Insha Allah, I will declare my new political party within the next 24 hours. In due course, I will issue an official statement. “Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin,” he said on Twitter.
He did not, however, announce the choice within the time frame he promised.
According to reports, the former House of Representatives member joined the NNPP, which is led by former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, after meeting with party leaders in Kano and Abuja.
Confirming the news, Jibrin released a video of his formal defection on Friday night, labeled ‘NNPP – NEW NIGERIA – SABUWAR NIGERIA! #EyeOnTheBall’ and shows him and NNPP members holding a basket of fruits, the party’s trademark, in approval of his membership.
