It has been revealed by Kabiru Attahiru, permanent secretary of the Zamfara ministry of education, that at least 75 secondary schools in the state remain shuttered due to safety concerns.
The Zamfara Ministry of Education, board for universal basic education, in collaboration with UNICEF, hosted a two-day conference on Saturday and Sunday to domesticate the national policy on gender in education (NPGE). Attahiru gave a speech on Saturday.
After attacks on two female-only schools in September 2021, he claims that most schools have been closed ever then.
Attahiru stated that the government had ordered schools to close after 75 students were kidnapped from Government Day Secondary School, Kaya, in the Maradun LGA of the state.
The state administration, according to the permanent secretary, is working nonstop to get the schools back open, and he stressed the importance of including field officers in the design of national education policy on gender education to achieve the desired outcome.
