President Muhammadu Buhari (retd) has submitted a list of seven ministry nominees to the Senate for vetting and confirmation.
Tuesday’s plenary session began with the reading of a letter submitted to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, which contained the request.
President Muhammadu Buhari wrote a letter using Section 147 (2) of the Constitution as justification for his request.
Henry Ikoh – Abia State; Umana Umana – Akwa Ibom State; Ekumankama Nkama – Ebonyi State; and Goodluck Opiah – Imo State are the nominees for the position of governor.
Umar El-Yakub (Kano), Ademola Adegoroye (Ondo), and Odum Odi (Rivers) are the other three candidates.
Since numerous former ministers resigned from their posts to pursue political goals, some cabinet positions have been left empty.
Among those who resigned were Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Ogbonnaya Onu, Ogbonnaya Onu, Rotimi Amaechi, Uche Ogah, Godswill Akpabio, and Senator Tayo Alasoadura, a former Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress has lost three more senators who had resigned from the ruling party.
Among those who have left the PDP are Senators Ahmad Babba-Kaita, who represents Katsina North, and Francis Alimikhena, who represents Edo North, while Bauchi South Senator Lawal Gumau has joined the New Nigeria Peoples Party.
On Tuesday, Lawan read out three different letters announcing the resignation and defection of the three members of the House of Representatives.
The Senate also named Senator Philip Aduda, a legislator from the Federal Capital Territory, as the next Minority Leader, succeeding Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, in plenary on Tuesday. Senate Minority Whip Chukwuka Utazi was also named to replace Senator Aduda.
