Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has insisted that Manchester United “need a better manager.’ if the team is to win a major trophy or compete with teams like Chelsea, Man City or Liverpool.
Speaking as a pundit on Skysports, Carragher believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not in the same calibre as Guardiola, Tuchel or Jurgen Klopp.
“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not a manager for Manchester United when you want to go to the next level. Now it’s the big boys. And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will never be Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola or Thomas Tuchel”, Carragher said.
Some days ago after United came from a 2:0 down to defeat Atlanta 3:2 in the Champions league, Carragher said that Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are “papering over the cracks” stating that Ole lack big trophy win history.
However, the United boss reacted that Carragher comments “doesn’t affect” him.
Ole said: “I’ve got my values, my way of managing, I believe in myself, as long as the club believes in me, I’m pretty sure Jamie Carragher’s opinion isn’t going to change that.”
Meanwhile, Carragher is emphatic about saying Ole is not fit for the United Job.
Carragher stated “Manchester United should have the best in class – the best managers and coaches in the world. If you have Ole as the manager you should have someone like Carlos Queiroz as the assistant coach. You cannot have people learning on the job who has never been at a club of that size. They have got Mike Phelan but I do not think he’s a coach, there’s Michael Carrick and Kieren McKenna, they have never coached anyone in their lives.
“I wasn’t saying that on Monday in a disrespectful way, I feel for Ole – that will be the darkest day in his career. I don’t want to get involved in a slanging match, I know Ole said something back and rightly so. I’m not comfortable saying someone should be sacked – but we are comfortable saying Fred is not good enough or Scott McTominay is not good enough so I do not feel too bad saying Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not good enough.” Carragher opined.
