The All Progressives Congress (APC) has sent three of its governors from the southern part of the country to the capital city of Rivers State, Port Harcourt, in an effort to recruit the state’s governor, Nyesom Wike, to the APC as the party’s candidate for governor.
Kayode Fayemi, the former governor of Ekiti State and the current chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), was reportedly among the poachers, according to a source who is familiar with the situation and who spoke with LEADERSHIP. Fayemi was reportedly accompanied by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, and Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State.
Remember that Governor Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his supporters are opposed to the selection of the governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, as the running mate to the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Ifeanyi Okowa is the governor of Delta State.
Ayodele Fayose, an ally of Wike and a former governor of Ekiti State, is also present at the meeting that is now taking place in the Garden City. Fayose recently stated that Southern Nigeria must produce the next President of Nigeria in 2023, and he is one of the attendees at the meeting.
