Over $23 million of the Abacha loot will be returned to Nigeria after an agreement was reached between the two countries.
On Tuesday, the agreement was formally signed at the office of Mr. Abubakar Malami, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation.
The Nigerian government was represented by Malami, and the United States was represented by U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria Mary Beth Leonard, who both signed the document.
When the money is returned, Attorney General Malami said it will be put toward three existing federal government projects, including the ongoing Abuja-Kaduna road and the 2nd Niger Bridge.
