The governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the north have asked President Muhammadu Buhari to consider the southern presidential candidates when deciding who will succeed him.
Following a meeting on Saturday, the governors issued a statement to that effect.
In the national interest, they asked the northern presidential candidates to drop out of the campaign.
According to a statement released by the governors, this prompted Jigawa Governor Badaru to withdraw from the presidential campaign.
Bello Masari of Katsina, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi, Simon Lalong of Plateau, Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano, Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Babagana Zulum of Borno, Sani Bello of Niger, and Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa are among the governors
