Why Deputy Oyo State Governor Rauf Olaniyan Was Impeached

Deputy Oyo State Governor Rauf Olaniyan

Deputy Governor Rauf Olaniyan of Oyo State has been impeached by the state house of assembly.

Rauf Olaniyan was removed from office after the state Assembly’s plenary on Monday adopted the report of the seven-member panel formed by the chief judge to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against the deputy governor.

With Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde, he was elected in 2019 on a PDP ticket, but recently defected to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The deputy governor has been found culpable,” Oyo State House of Assembly majority leader Sanjo Adedoyin said of the allegations and complaints leveled against him.

“The removal of Olaniyan from office is backed by section 188(9) of the 1999 constitution,” the Oyo Assembly declared (as amended).
