An ex-deputy governor of Sokoto State named Mukhtar Shagari claims the Labour Party approached him about running as Peter Obi’s running mate for president, but he turned down the offer.

On Tuesday’s episode of Politics Today on Channels Television, Shagari explained his decision not to run against Obi in 2023.

He claims, “I was asked by the Labour Party if I would be interested in running as Peter Obi’s running mate for the presidency.”

When I considered the political climate and the nature of the Labour Party, I realized I couldn’t run alongside Peter Obi for vice president.

As things are, I just don’t see how Peter Obi can possibly win the election here in Nigeria.

“It’s so obvious that in parts of the Southeast, where young people are shouting about him on social media, sure, it’s politics.

But the fact remains that the APC and the PDP are the two most powerful political parties in the country. I believe you need to be a part of one of them if you want to be President.

Since zoning is not explicitly addressed in the constitution, according to Shagari, it is not a subject of constitutional significance.

It’s just a big party,” he declared.
