Olatoye’s fourth gold medal meant that Team Nigeria remained in third place on the medals table following Day 4 of competition in Mauritius.
On Saturday, Team Nigeria added another gold medal to its collection in the ongoing 22nd African Senior Athletics Championships in Mauritius.

On the fourth day of competition in Mauritius, Sade Olatoye prevailed over Zouina Bouzebra of Algeria to win the women’s Hammer throw.

Bouzebra’s first two throws of 59.86m and 59.66m were superior to Olatoye’s first two throws of 57.78m and 57.98m.

Olatoye dug hard to deliver her winning score of 63.67m on her third attempt, while the overtaken Bouzebra had to settle for Silver with 63.48m.

Rawan Barakat of Egypt won the bronze medal with a distance of 62.67 meters.

Olatoye’s single goal medal was sufficient to preserve Nigeria tied for third place with Algeria on the medals table, with a total of seven medals: four Gold, two Silver, and one Bronze.

South Africa is first in the medals standings with six gold, nine silver, and ten bronze medals, while Kenya is second with five gold, two silver, and two bronze medals.

On the fifth day of competition, Nigeria will attempt to win additional medals, as Chidi Okezie has advanced to the 200-meter final.

Okezie earned an automatic berth in the 200-meter final after placing second in the third semi-final heat with a timing of 21.01 seconds.
