The Federal Government has increased Minister and Permanent Secretary Duty Tour Allowances by 250%.

According to a circular, the federal government also increased the DTA for government employees.

It was announced in a circular from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission that the rise will be implemented on September 1.

Review of Duty Tour Allowance in the Federal Public Service” was the subject of a letter dated August 31, 2022 and sent to a number of government officials, including the President’s Chief of Staff, various ministers and secretaries, the head of the federal civil service, the Clerk of the National Assembly, and others, and was given the SWC/C/04/S.6/II/333 reference number.

Results indicate that the previous evaluation occurred in 2008.

Recent worker activism has pushed for a rate revision in light of the current economic climate.

The rate of inflation was estimated to be at 11% as of the time of the last review in 2008.

The current inflation rate of 19.64% in Nigeria is the highest it has been in 17 years.

Food price inflation in particular is putting upward pressure on the Nigerian economy.

According to the circular, President Muhammadu Buhari authorized a raise in Duty Tour Allowances from N20,000 to N70,000 for permanent secretaries and equivalents, and from N35,000 to N80,000 for ministers, SGFs, HCSFs, and their equivalents.

The circular states that officers at Grade Levels 01–04 will receive DTA of N10,000 per day, up from the previous N5,000, and that officers at Grade Levels 05–06 and its equivalent will receive DTA of N15,000 per day, up from the prior N5,000.

Similarly, workers in Grades 7–10 or its equivalent would now receive N17,500 per diem, up from N12,000 previously, and those in Grades 12–13 or its equivalent will receive N20,000 DTA, up from N12,000.

The government has increased the daily allowance (DTA) paid to officers at Grade Levels 14 and 15 and comparable to N25,000 from the previous N16,000, and the DTA paid to workers at Grade Levels 16 and 17 and equivalent has increased to N37,500 from N16,000.

“As of September 1, 2022, this approval is hereby granted. In light of the foregoing, and in continuation of our Circular No. SWC/S/04/S.6/II/208 dated February 2, 2022 on the matter at hand, the following is a complete list and Duty Tour Allowances: “Grade Level 01 to Grade Level 04 or equivalent – N10,000 per diem,” the memo continued.
