Domestic airlines operating under the auspices of Airline Operators of Nigeria, AON, have cancelled their scheduled flight suspension, which was set to begin on Monday.

According to a statement signed by AON President Alhaji Abdulmunaf Yunusa Sarina and approved by other members, they have listened to stakeholders and the federal government’s appeals not to withdraw their services.

“The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) wishes to inform the general public that, in response to numerous calls from the highest echelons of government with promises to urgently intervene in the crises being faced by airlines due to the astronomic and continuously rising cost of JetA1, the AON has acceded to requests to withdraw the action for the time being while we allow for a fresh round of dialogue with the government in the hope of reaching an amicable solution,” the statement read.

“We have also taken this decision with the utmost respect for our esteemed clients who have been faced with uncertainty over the last several days, and to enable them to travel to their different destinations for the time being while conversations with appropriate authorities are ongoing.”

“In light of the foregoing, and in the interest of national economy and security considerations, AON hereby wishes to notify the general public that the previously announced shutdown of operations on May 9, 2022 is hereby suspended in good fate pending the outcome of hopefully fruitful engagement with government,” said the AON President.
