According to data from the General Medical Council of the United Kingdom, at least 6,068 Nigerian-trained doctors have moved to the United Kingdom since President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime took office in 2015.
According to data obtained by Punch, the number of Nigerian-trained doctors who went to the UK as of August 30, 2022 was 10,096.
Nigerian doctors who earned their medical degrees in schools outside the country are not included in the data.
According to the data, 233 Nigerian doctors passed the exam to practice in the United Kingdom in 2015.
In 2016, the total grew to 279, and in 2017, it reached 475.
In 2018, the amount increased to 852; in 2019, it increased to 1,347.
Despite the fact that the GMC was closed during the COVID-19 epidemic, the figure in 2020 was 833. The figure for 2021 has been set at 932.
As of 2022, figures show that 1,107 Nigerian-trained doctors have been licensed to practice.
Nigeria now has the third biggest number of foreign doctors working in the UK, trailing only India and Pakistan.
