The All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, has stated that the party’s leadership will teach Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos State and presidential candidate on the party’s platform, a lesson for his remarks against President Muhammadu Buhari.
On Thursday, Tinubu told party delegates in Abeokuta, Ogun State, that Buhari would not have won president in 2015 if it weren’t for his backing.
After losing three presidential elections, Buhari had resolved not to run again, according to the former governor, but he visited him in Kaduna and persuaded him to run again in 2015, pledging to back him if he would look after the Yoruba’s interests.
Even when Tinubu’s team published a statement stating that he didn’t mean to offend Buhari, the comment has sparked outrage.
During an interview over the weekend, Adamu, the APC chairman, replied to the remarks by saying that the former Lagos governor might be punished.
In a follow-up interview with BBC Hausa on Sunday morning, Adamu gave a stinging criticism of Tinubu, saying that “an ethical person would not do what he did” and promising that he would not go unpunished.
“Even a drunk person wouldn’t do this unless he meant to,” Adamu added.
“We’re not going to let that go unpunished.” It’s the pinnacle of etiquette failure. It’s up to us to teach him a lesson. He should be the one to blame if this hurts his ambition.”
