Amaechi, Onu and Akpabio Resigns Ministerial Appointments On Buhari’s Order

During Wednesday's Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, President Buhari directed that all members of his cabinet pursuing elected positions in the 2023 election resign by May 16. On Wednesday, Akpabio reportedly presented his letter of resignation to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha. In a similar vein, Rotimi Amaechi, the Transportation Minister, has resigned to pursue his presidential ambitions on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Amaechi's resignation follows that of Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, and Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, all of whom are running for president on the APC platform. On Wednesday, the APC United Kingdom official Twitter handle confirmed Amaechi's resignation, writing, "Nigeria's Minister of #Transportation, HM Chibuike R. Amaechi  has resigned from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to focus on his Presidential Campaign."
