Okupe, Labour Party candidate for vice-president(in placeholder capacity), has indicated the party is in talks with other political parties about creating a coalition for the 2023 elections.
Peter Obi’s running mate, Okupe, gave an interview to Channels TV on Friday, saying that he would be “standing in” for him.
To beat the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he said the party is working on forming the “biggest political coalition in Nigeria” (PDP).
“Because we are up against two political behemoths — APC and PDP — we believe it is necessary to build the largest possible political coalition in this country. It is our intention to surpass them, and we will,” he asserted.
That’s fine, but we can’t do it alone. ” For us, it’s imperative that we put together a coalition, and we need to ensure that all of the stakeholders are included from beginning to end.
To avoid the circumstance where people think, ‘you’ve cooked this food already, so why do we need to bother?,’ we will not take any action. As a result, the Labour Party has nominated me, Dr. Doyin Okupe, to serve as its vice presidential candidate.
“This isn’t a trap. We’re meeting with a wide range of organizations, including youth groups and political parties. PRP, NNPP, and SDP are involved in our discussions. Every major political party outside of the APC and PDP is being contacted. We’re not keeping anything from you.
Elections are used to select the vice-presidential candidate. As long as the procedure and the timeline are in place, it will continue. A candidate can be presented and substituted, but it’s up to the candidate to decide if they want to continue or not.
According to the current situation, it is our belief that the incoming Labour Party government will focus on young Nigerians.” Those of us with a sordid history must be willing to make the sacrifice, even if it means sacrificing ourselves, in order to create an environment where our youth can rise to positions of leadership and authority.
So that young people might rise to the top, I am willing to put my back out for them. This goal can be achieved with any amount of sacrifice. As long as we are able to hand over Nigeria to the workers and youths of this country, we will continue to work and pursue this cause.”
