After losing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential nomination, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu announced that he will not compete on any other political platform in the 2023 election cycle.
Recall that Moghalu, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, was the presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the 2019 elections. However, he defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the run-up to the 2023 party primaries in order to pursue his presidential ambitions.
NAN recalls that Moghalu withdrew from the party on June 8, in Abeokuta, Ogun, after losing the ADC primaries to Dumebi Kachikwu.
Moghalu, a lawyer and political economist, said in a statement released on Monday that a number of different political parties have issued him offers to run for president in the 2023 general elections on their party platforms.
“Despite this, I have decided not to run for office in this election cycle.
He stated, “At this point, I have no intention of joining any other political party for the 2023 general elections.
“However, I aim to remain actively involved in the immediate future of our country, including the next elections, by making contributions that are suitable and can be beneficial to nation-building.”
According to him, numerous political associates, friends, and other Nigerians have pondered his next actions over the past few weeks, since after he resigned from ADC on the basis of principle during the party’s recent presidential primaries.
Moghalu stated that his campaign was always built on a vision for Nigeria, as outlined in his manifesto book Build, Innovate, and Grow (BIG), and a desire to serve, “and never on excessive personal ambition.”
The presidential candidate stated that he was humbled by the parties’ acknowledgement of the strength and influence of his political brand in the country today by inviting him to run on their ticket.
“To my followers who already have tickets from party primaries to run for down-ballot posts under the ADC, you have my complete support in your political campaigns and my wishes for victory.
“For individuals who held tickets but resigned from the party in solidarity with me and still wish to run for office, there are different routes to pursue.
“To my supporters and the general public who would have voted for me as a presidential candidate in the general elections had I been a candidate, I ask you to give your support and vote in the 2023 election to the candidate who most closely reflects our shared vision of a secure, united, and prosperous Nigeria.
“Transformative leadership that signifies a departure from the existing political order offers the best opportunity to realize this vision,” he said.
According to him, a better Nigeria is attainable, and the path to making this vision a reality is of the utmost importance and urgency.
“Our children must experience a tomorrow that is vastly superior to our present,” he continued.
