Whistleblowers have helped the federal government uncover nearly 54,000 instances of payroll theft in the IPPIS.

According to National Security Advisor Babagana Monguno (NSA).

This was announced by Monguno on Friday in Abuja at the National Policy Dialogue on Corruption and Security hosted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC).

The discovery, he said, was due to the extension of IPPIS coverage despite strong opposition from some sectors.

In addition, Monguno mentioned the implementation of the Bank Verification Number (BVN) to substantiate the Federal Government’s stance on the detecting payment platform.

He claimed that the government saves about N4 billion in monthly bank charges thanks to the widespread adoption of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) across 90% of all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). This is because the TSA has allowed for the consolidation of over 70,000 bank accounts that had been spread across various deposit money banks in the country.

The gathering’s stated purpose was to have a conversation on the country’s present security situation and how corruption is contributing to the country’s woes.

The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, the Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor, and the Minister of the Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, were all present.
