In preparation for the 2023 elections, presidential candidates from political parties who wish to put up or paste their posters anywhere in Anambra State must pay N10m.

This is what the Anambra Signage and Advertising Agency has announced (ANSAA).

The agency’s managing director, Mr. Tony Ujubuonu, announced the fee schedule on Friday, stating that candidates for senator must pay N7 million and candidates for the House of Representatives must pay N5 million. Similarly, candidates for the state legislature must pay N1 million.

ANSAA also determined the legal fees for outdoor and mobile advertising to be N100,000 for 48-sheet billboards, N500,000 for spectacular billboards, N500,000 for gantry displays, N100,000 for an irregularly shaped billboard, N50,000 for a branded vehicle, and N5,000 for the rear of a branded tricycle.

Aside from prohibiting the pasting of campaign posters on street light poles; roundabouts, and other public buildings, the state government has also banned the pasting of posters on bridges and road demarcations along the streets of the state.

All advertisements, including those on billboards, public address systems, banners, fliers, bunting, T-shirts, caps, and other sundries, must be pre-approved and paid for by the state government before they can be displayed anywhere in the state.

The government warned that politicians who failed to comply would be prosecuted in the lead-up to the election if they displayed the posters without first depositing the required funds into the state’s revenue account.

In addition, the notice stated that all billboards must be displayed by means of a registered advertising practitioner, and that all advertisements must be approved by the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria, APCON.

According to INEC’s schedule, election campaigns for the 2023 general election will begin in earnest next month.
