Senator Abdulahi Adamu, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stated Wednesday that the ruling party will make a decision on zoning once all presidential hopefuls had been examined. Adamu also stated in an interview with select Hausa Service media organizations that presidential hopefuls will be scrutinized in accordance with the party’s criteria for the 2023 elections. The party’s guidelines include three methods for selecting the party’s candidate for an election: direct, indirect, and consensus. Adamu stated that no decision on the zoning layout would be made until the contenders were vetted.

“We have not yet produced our candidate for the president,” he said. To determine how to proceed, we must screen the candidates. In the contest, we have hopefuls from all around the country. We’ll make a decision when we arrive.” On the likelihood of a consensual agreement, Adamu stated that party members could not be denied the ability to run for president. “You can’t stop our party’s mainstay from running for office or running for president.” It is their right, and we applaud them. There is nothing wrong with somebody striving to the highest office in the land.

Who receives what is decided by God. We are praying for God to make up His mind and declare, “This is who He wants.” “We have 28 presidential candidates, and everyone understands that none of them will receive the ticket.” If God wills, they can all be president of the country one after the other. Our purpose is to ensure fairness in the selection of the party’s candidate. That does not imply we are without flaws. “But we want to do the right thing,” he said.

When asked if the party was considering implementing the kind of consensus approach that resulted in his becoming chairman, Adamu stated that the chairmanship post was not the same as the position of president. “There is no truth in what you stated,” he says. The reason for this is that the chairmanship position is not the same as the presidential election. You cannot possibly compare the two. That question is not raised. “However, the party has established its own set of rules and restrictions for hopefuls.” We would analyze all of them based on our criteria to ensure that we choose the best candidate for the party.”

In response to charges that aspirants were distributing money to delegates, Adamu stated that he had no proof to support such claims. “At the moment, there is no regulation prohibiting hopefuls from campaigning to delegates.” I have no indication that candidates are distributing money to delegates. Delegates, in my opinion, are selling their conscience, which is improper. Our delegates should understand that anyone who gives them money cannot be the proper candidate for the party. He has no good intentions for the country. I don’t know how to solve the situation.” Adamu remarked that the rationale for the 145 governorship and 25 presidential hopefuls was because the APC was the government in power and those who mattered in the country were in the party.

“You don’t know why; it’s because that’s where the important people in the country are.” It did not begin today. We are the current government. Despite the insults, the APC enjoys a significant edge over the other parties. A full-blooded and plump man is an indication of a powerful man. “Today, the APC is Nigeria’s largest political party.” The APC would naturally attract more Nigerians than any other party. This is where it is taking place. Any rational politician would inevitably go toward the APC. Of course, we have challenges, but now we are the center of attention for all Nigerians, and I am hopeful that, God willing, we will maintain power at the general election.
