Nasarawa State Commissioner, Yakubu Lawal

Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism for Nasarawa State, Yakubu Lawal, has been kidnapped, according to the police in his home state.

This was confirmed on Tuesday in Lafia, the state capital, by DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).

“On Monday, Aug. 15 at about 8:45 p.m., the attention of Policemen on routine patrol was drawn to the sound of sporadic gunfire in the Nassarawa-Eggon Local Government Area of the state,” he stated.

According to the police spokeswoman, the Nassarawa-Eggon Division’s operatives were the first to arrive.

CP Adesina Soyemi bolstered the men with assistance from the Police Mobile Force, the Anti Kidnapping squad, military personnel, vigilantes, and local hunters.

Upon arrival, it was found that “unknown gunmen while shooting randomly, attacked the residence of the Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism and forcibly took him to an unknown destination.

“The search and rescue operation is ongoing by the joint team, lead by Area Commander, Akwanga Area Command, ACP Halliru Aliyu to rescue the victim unhurt and apprehend the culprits of the crime,” he added.

The PPRO reported that the Commissioner of Police had issued an order requesting assistance in locating the kidnapped person and bringing those responsible to justice.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that gunmen on Saturday attacked and killed a staff member of Government Science Secondary School Nassarawa-Eggon in the same LGA the Commissioner for Information was abducted.
