Bashir Machina has been cautioned by Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in response to comments that Machina made regarding the party’s senatorial ticket for Yobe North.

Machina, who won the primary election, made it plain that he would not step down for Ahmad Lawan, who is running for Senate President. This caused the ticket to raise controversy.

In May, Lawan had run for the presidential nomination of the APC, but he was unsuccessful.

Nevertheless, Lawan, who is serving as the representative for Yobe north district at the moment, was ultimately selected to be the APC senatorial candidate for the general election in 2023.

The participation of the Senate President in a primary election for the district has been pushed upon by Adamu.

During an interview that took place on Thursday with BBC Hausa, Adamu made the following statement: “If you don’t know how to set a trap for a thief, the thief will set the trap for you.” Machina ought to exercise caution because the situation he’s in is rapidly deteriorating. From my perspective as chairman, there was no violation of any legislation committed by my party.

“Does any law state that if you compete for one position, you cannot compete for another position at the same time? There is not a single statute that forbids someone from doing so.”
