Olukayode Ariwoola has been nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari to be Nigeria’s next chief justice (CJN).

On Tuesday, Senate President Ahmad Lawan read a letter from Buhari to the chamber, which contained his request.

Since Ibrahim Tanko Muhammed resigned as head of the country’s court, Ariwoola has served as the CJN.

After 14 of the Supreme Court’s justices accused the CJN of abdicating his duties as the court’s leader, Muhammad resigned.

The president cited section 231 (1) of the constitution in his letter, which Lawan read aloud.

Olukayode Ariwoola has been nominated for chief justice by President Muhammadu Buhari in accordance with Section 231 (1) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s revised constitution.
