In a plot with former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice, Obinna Obeta, a Nigerian doctor living in the UK, is accused of trafficking a homeless man into the UK to harvest a kidney for their daughter.

Obeda, 50, appeared in court on July 13 and was charged under the Modern Slavery Act with facilitating the transportation of an alleged victim, 21, between August 2013 and May 2014, in order to exploit him.

Obeta is accused of conspiring with the former Senate President to arrange or facilitate the travel of a man who would be exploited, namely for organ harvesting, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

Ekweremadus are being tried in the UK on charges of organ harvesting after a 21-year-old man claiming he was “15” years old they brought to the UK approached the police with claims of slavery and also of being “15” years old. Heathrow detained the Nigerian politician and his wife on June 21 after they arrived from Turkey.

On his Nigerian bank accounts and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), David’s biodata indicated that he was 21 years old.

It was on Thursday that Obeta and Ike Ekweremadu were both charged with facilitating the travel of another person for profit and conspiracy.
