Northern governors has shun calls for Zoning presidential seat to the South by the southern governors.
According to resolutions of the Northern governors after a meeting with it traditional rulers, Chairman of the Forum Simon Lalong, made it known that Zoning is against the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
The 19 Northern governors said that zoning is unconstitutional stating that any presidential elect must conform to the constitutional requirements of scoring the majority of votes, and polling at least 25 per cent of the votes cast in two-thirds of the 36 states of the country.
With the current situation of the country, Nigerians question who President Buhari could possibly pass the Barton to come 2023?
Southern governors have agitated that the president office should come from it region.
Surprisingly, there is a disunity in the southern states where the South east believes it’s injustice if the presidential seat does not originate from it part adding that Since 1999, the other zones of southern Nigeria – South-West and South-South – have produced presidents.
However, some days ago, The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) spokesman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, said that NEF will not allow the 2023 presidency to be zoned to the southern part of the country, insisting that the position is a democratic office that will be determined by the majority.
He also maintained that there is nothing wrong if the North produces the next president after Buhari.
