President Muhammadu Buhari has asked that all members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) seeking elected office submit their resignation letters by Monday, May 16, 2022.

Lai Mohamed, the Minister of Information and Culture, announced this at the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the Vice President, is not included in the instruction, according to him.

Ministers of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio; Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; Science, Technology and Innovation, Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba; Justice and Attorney General, Abubakar Malami, are among those impacted (APC).

Others include Uche Ogar, the Minister of State for Mines and Steel, who is running for governor of Abia State, and Paulline Tallen, the Minister of Women Affairs, who has expressed her intention to compete for a senate seat in Plateau State.

The Information Minister stated that any adjustments or additions to this order will be made as soon as possible.

According to the Minister, if the necessity arises, the directive may include political appointments.

He further stated that the Vice President is not included in the instruction because he is an elected cabinet member.
