The shaky national energy grid of Nigeria has once again collapsed, leaving many towns, including the federal capital Abuja, in the dark.
Electricity providers reported late Sunday that the outage happened shortly before 7 p.m.
It is the sixth collapse documented in 2022, however it is possible that the number is greater.
The government identifies ineffective management and inadequate gas supply as the primary causes of the recurring breakdowns.
Sunday, Jos Electricity Distribution Plc informed its consumers via its Facebook page of an interruption in Electricity service.
Friday Elijah, head of corporate communication, stated, “The Management of Jos Electricity Distribution Company Plc desires to inform the general public that the current outage is the consequence of a system failure.”
He continued, “We hope to restore supply as soon as supply is restored.”
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc stated, “EEDC desires to alert her respected customers of a system failure that happened at 6:49 p.m. today, June 12th, 2022.”
The statement, signed by spokesperson Emeka Ezeh, said that as a result of the incident, all outbound feeders were out of service, affecting the company’s ability to supply its clients in the states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo.
“We are expecting additional information from the National Control Centre (NCC) on the restoration of supplies,” he added.
In addition, Eko Electricity Distribution Company stated, “Dear Respected Customer, we regret to inform you of the National grid system failure.
This has harmed the entire network and our capacity to provide optimal service.”

Abdulazeez Abdullahi, the spokesperson for the electrical distribution company in Kaduna, relayed the same information to customers.
“We regret to inform you that the power outage throughout our franchise states is the result of a National Grid System Collapse.
The collapse occurred at approximately 6:47 this evening, resulting in the loss of supplies to all of our outgoing feeders, as stated in the warning.
The corporation has assured customers that power would be restored as soon as the National Grid is reactivated.
“Please be advised that the present power loss is the result of a National Grid system failure.
The system failed at around 6:49 p.m. on June 12, 2022, producing the present power outage, according to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company’s Facebook page.
“We ask for your understanding as all parties work diligently to restore regular supply,” the message stated.
After a similar outage in April, Abubakar Aliyu, the Minister of Power, stated that the administration had been working to enhance power supplies.
Similar to previous administrations, the Buhari administration has thus far been unable to resolve Nigeria’s enduring power crisis.
