Before being sentenced by a court in the United States, Ramon Abbas, aka Hushpuppi, a Nigerian internet fraudster, has asked for leniency.

Hushpuppi’s prison record, included in his rebuttal to the prosecution’s sentencing recommendations, demonstrated his success both academically and socially.

Between when he signed up in July 2021 and when he finished his time at the Central Valley workshop for inmates in November 2021, the Internet fraudster received a “very good” in attitude, quality of work, dependability, and productivity.

“He is currently working within his prison washing windows and showers—for which he has earned wonderful personal ratings,” Mr. Abbas’s lawyer Louis Shapiro stated in the brief submitted on September 5.

After being detained in Dubai in June 2020, Mr. Abbas was swiftly sent to a prison in the United States where he has been the subject of sentencing arguments from both the prosecution and the defense.

Mr. Shapiro argued for a sentence of around two years in jail, while the prosecution lead by assistant U.S. attorney Khaldoun Shobaki requested 11 years in prison and $2.2 million in restitution and fines.

In defence of Hushpuppi’s prison sentence, Mr. Shapiro added that Mr. Abbas has three young children in London, the United States, and Dubai, as well as ailing parents in Nigeria, all of whom he must support.

On September 21, Mr. Wright is set to hear the prosecution’s and defense’s sentencing arguments.
