Guinea Bissau following the collapse of both the parliament and his cabinet on May 16 of this year, President Umaro Sissoco Embaló on Thursday named a new administration that would be tasked with the preparation of the legislative election that will take place on December 18.
On Friday, the new members of the administration are going to officially accept their positions by swearing in. They came from several political parties, including the Social Renewal Party (PPR), the Movement for Democratic Alternance (MADEM-G15), and the Assembly of the United People – Democratic Party of Guinea-Bissau. They were chosen by a panel of judges (APU-PDGB).
Prime Minister Nuno Gomes Nabiam is the current head of the APU-PDGB.
There will be 23 ministers in the new government, in addition to 12 secretaries of state.
The African Party for the Independence of Guinea-Bissau (PAIGC) is the country’s primary opposition party. In the past, the party has indicated that there is a chance it will participate in the formation of the new administration. Despite this, it is not part of the package.
