Brits Celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee

Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee

Thousands of royal supporters are lining the streets of London today to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s platinum jubilee, which begins today with a four day ceremony filled with parties and parades to mark her 70 years on the British throne as a monarch.

The Queen said in statement: “Thank you to everyone who has been involved in convening communities, families, neighbours and friends to mark my Platinum Jubilee, in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth. I know that many happy memories will be created at these festive occasions.”

“I continue to be inspired by the goodwill shown to me, and hope that the coming days will provide an opportunity to reflect on all that has been achieved during the last seventy years, as we look to the future with confidence and enthusiasm.”

Several supporters set up camps on the roads leading up to Buckingham Palace, staying overnight in order to get good view of the regimental marching bands and wave Union flags.
Others came to watch the parade on big screens.
However, due to her advanced age, the queen’s personal involvement in the event would be limited.
The festivities kick off with military parade in central London, where Elizabeth will receive the salute from 1,500 soldiers and officers from the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the first time.
Prince Andrew, the queen’s second son, is not expected to attend because he recently settled lawsuit in the United States for sexual assault of minor.
Apart from him, every other member of the Royal family is either present or expected to be present.
