Anglo American’s green hydrogen truck, according to President Cyril Ramaphosa, is a giant leap for South Africa’s hydrogen industry.

The mining behemoth has unveiled the world’s largest hydrogen-powered vehicle, with a payload capacity of up to 310 tons, at its Mogalakwena platinum mine in Limpop

A solar battery powers the vehicle, which separates the hydrogen and oxygen components of water.
Anglo American has set a net-zero aim for 2040, which aligns with the government’s 2050 goal.

Ramaphosa noted that the green hydrogen vehicle production will offer proof of renewable energy possibilities in the mining sector.

“Everything we see around us, everything we use on a daily basis, whether it’s in our homes or everywhere, it originates from the Earth,” the president

There is also optimism that this technology will be used in other sectors.

The president was among the first to ride in the 210-ton truck as it loaded loads of ore and unloaded at the apex of a vast heap.
